Why do you know that and I don't?

Pat and I were driving to the meat market and we were talking about my grandparents. (because I want to get out to visit them soon). Apparently early in our relationship when Pat and I went down for a visit my Grandfather told Pat off (exaggerating a little here). He did not agree with all of the Environmental rules that Pat has to enforce as a part of his job as an environmental consultant. I knew my Grandfather worked in the nuclear field but seriously had no idea what company or entity. Turns out it was for the governmental nuclear agency (who's name escapes me so that my husband can continue to know more about my grandfather then I do).

On a side note all those looking for baby back ribs this time of year, your apparently out of luck. we had noticed that the grocery store only had spare ribs (I don't notice the difference) so we thought we would try the meat market near Pat's work. They didn't have any either. Apparently this time of year they do not sell very well so they are not stocked. so if you want them call ahead and order them before going into the store.

Deviation

This morning I must have been extra tired. I got my right contact in but the left contact some how didn't make it. No I did not notice until I was 1/2 way to work. The eyes work very well together and it wasn't very blurry. Once I did notice it drove me batty, good thing those glasses finally came in!

Tonight I had to deviate from my normal schedule. Normally that would mean just skipping the gym. I don't really like doing that but eating before going to the gym is the worst! To be honest the workout was liter then normal and while it felt good to get the workout in, it could have been better. Even with the lighter shorter workout my stomach was not happy. Dealing with hunger pains while working out is not fun but preferable to full stomach pain/ickyness.

I made it through the workout feeling pretty good though apparently the 5 min walk back to the apartment was just too much. Sigh.

I got caught up on Monk and Psych today. I watched the episodes via the Internet. Monk is a pleasure to watch on line one 30 second commercial in the beginning then commercial free. I really like it that way. Psych on the other hand had the SAME 30 second commercial at the beginning and where the normal commercial breaks would have been. I think dealing with 4-5 commercials is not bad for a TV show but seeing the same one over and over is just torture. I have one more to watch to be caught up to the most current episode and I am considering just not watching it. I'm sure the rerun will come on eventually. (seriously full commercial vs. 4-5 of the same commercial, full commercial really wins. Unbelievable)

Interesting Fact

The Elliptical at the gym only counts to 1000 calories then it has to start over. I wish that counter was reliable, then again the recumbent bike burns minimal calories for the effort so hopefully it is a low count for that machine. I'm guessing it does not work that way.

Though I did burn enough calories to have a strange still hungry yet full feeling during dinner. I ended up finishing up after a 30 minute break. It was the strangest feeling ever!

Tonight Pat's hockey team was playing on TV. I missed Obama's speech. I should be more heartbroken but it's politics and all the news sources would be reporting on it tomorrow. It was nice to sit by the bedroom heater (from now on to be called our fireplace) and working to finish the Soprano State. An ugly yet accurate book about NJ Politics. Dad's going to love reading it. He already doesn't believe the stories that I have told him and that is just the beginning.

Monday Blues

Coming back to work was suky today. The only good thing that came out of the day was my glasses. Yes the same ones that have been the source of many unhappy blogs. They were waiting on my desk when I got in. (I hoped but didn't think they would actually get here). So now when I am to Lazy to put in my contacts or my eyes are tired from the contacts I have glasses that can be thrown on. My eyes are happy. Even Pat celebrated when I got home he was happy I had received the elusive glasses.

Work was long and under productive. I got all the e-mails and messages done but other then that it was a loss.

To make my Monday (and the rest of the week) even better both of the good treadmills are broken, this leaves one working treadmill (that wobbles when I walk on it), the elliptical and the recumbent bike. I can only hope to get to the gym before the bike and elliptical are taken or I will have a really bad workout week. (that is until they get them fixed which should be sometime this week).

On the upside I looked for a central location to the skiing locations in VT and the Adirondacks and found a town called Ticonderoga it's not close to any of them but is close enough for me. I even found a beautiful log cabin and would love to purchase it. Maybe in a few years. If only there were jobs in the area I would thrilled to just move there!

Vacation at Home

We scheduled the last day of our vacation to be home. With all of the driving that we (Read Pat) did I figured that we (read I) would be tired. It also gave us a chance to do laundry (we didn't) and pick up the girls.

I called at 9:30 to schedule the pickup. We even snuck in a trip to the grocery store before heading over. It was great they were all ready to go when I got to the breeders at 11 am. We packed up the SUV and headed home. They were happy to be in their big cage but Pinky is suddenly very jumpy. I figure it is a big change sound wise going from a quiet basement to the loud apartment but she is alot jumpier then she normally is, even after a vacation.

As I was leaving the breeder suggested I get toys that hang from the cage for the girls, the fur chewing is a sign of boardness. After getting the girls settled in I ran off to the store. I got 2 toys to see which they would like better. It seems they enthusiastically approve of both. One will need to be replaced fairly shortly the other is refillable so only the chewy parts will need to be refilled. One is in a more challanging spot for the girls to get to but they are getting to it and chewing it up.

It was great to have the day to unpack and unwind but I can't help feeling that we could have done another day (had our equipment not been so wet!). It is good to be home and sleeping in our own bed. I just wish we lived closer to skiing.

Randomness

Is that a word?

While driving home from work today I saw a Lincoln Navigator that had sparkly licence plate holders. I actually would not have noticed the type of car had the holders not been bade of crystals (or likely glass) with a $ design on the sides and bottom with 3 on top. After noticing that it was a fairly expensive SUV I had to wonder if they wanted to get robbed. We were driving on a highway so they were pretty safe but a car like that is probably very limited in where it can go in NJ. Because they had SC plates I'm wondering if they knew that. That car would not last 60 seconds in Newark, Camden, Irvington or Jersey City. I wonder if they would harass the driver extra expecting to get extra cash off of them.

It may be cute in SC, in NJ you better be careful.

from someone that normally just On a separate note, one of the guys that comes to the gym at pretty much the same time as I do decided to be chatty today. It was funny because he must hear my trainer (the other guy that is always there counting my calories) ask about my calorie count, so that is how he opened the conversation. I had only been on the machine 90 seconds. (20 calories by the way). He came back after 15 minutes or so to check on my progress. apparently he had just started going to the gym 20 days ago. I asked him if he could feel a difference, he could and see a bit of a difference. I'm not sure how he got there but he made sure to tell me that i had a perfect body. How he went from his feeling better by going to the gym to my body is a little bit of a stretch. It was especially strange because he gets the same smile and hello as everyone that comes into the gym. (if I am paying attention). It was strange but I'll take a compliment.

I came home and told Pat I have a perfect body. He agreed and was about to give me a kiss when it hit him, 'who told you that?'

LOL

Composing

I had a great blog for today. I wrote it in my head. But like most great blogs written in my head by the time the computer is with in my reach it is long gone. It's actually funny, sometimes it helps me to get through the 5 hard minutes of running in the middle of my 45 minute run. It's amazing that I don't fall on my ass. By the time the shower and food portion of the evening are over the blogs are long gone. Sometimes they do come back but it would be nice to remember what happened in my day long enough to get it written down.

Being lazy I hit the treadmill walking. Changing the incline was my compromise it added a little bit more to my workout with out my having to run. It was surprising to learn that the incline went all the way to 15. I had been doing 2 before finding out. Walking at 15 was hard so of course I had to try jogging at the same pitch. Embarrassingly 45 seconds was it. I couldn't last any longer. I will say it was because I was supposed to be having a lazy workout, but will you let me get away with it? I hope so.

It made me realize that the incline buttons have been sorely neglected. After the week of skiing we will need to experiment a little more.

Sick in the Head

After a full day of hearing my coworker sniffling, sneezing and coughing; I went home feeling tired and crappy. Psychological no doubt, though I was worried about catching a cold for the ski trip next week. I debated all the way home weather to go to the gym or stay home and rest. Going to the gym sometimes cures minor colds but it can make a budding bad cold worse.

In the end I skipped the gym and spent the afternoon relaxing and cleaning the kitchen. I feel better having it (almost) done. The worst of it is done.

Now off to bed early and hopefully I will feel better in the morning.

Grumply

After being stood up for dinner last night, I was grumpy today. Going to Wegmans helped a little but when we got home and I started my "pulled" pork things went south pretty fast.

My new digital thermometer was broken (it was definitely not 190 degrees in the apartment or 160 outside). I left it on hoping that it would magically recalibrate and I would be able to use it. (of course that didn't work) so a few hours after starting the roast in the slow cooker I went to the closest store that would likely have a meat thermometer. The new one told me that the roast was cooking too slowly, it would never be done.

I cranked up the heat to Medium to no avail. Finally around 8 I cut the shoulder in half and threw it in the oven. It was done in another hour. I pulled it for a few minutes when I decided that I was tired and was not going to get it all done anyway. I threw it in the fridge. It smelled great for the first few hours but after hours of smelling it cook I was so sick of it, I just couldn't smell it any more. Hopefully it will pull cold, otherwise we will just have to eat the fattier, cut as is. Somehow I do not think that will be nearly as good.

I will try it again but make some changes;

- a much smaller cut of meat, maybe a tenderloin (less fat)
- have all ingredients ahead of time, then I can start it early
- cook it in the oven, the cut was too big for the slow cooker, I think

Wish me luck!

Wardrobe Malfunction

I really need to get into the habit of setting my cloths out the night before. It's too confusing early in the morning figuring out what to wear and weather everything matches. Add to that I wear out the elbows in many of my tops. Very slowly they just wear away and I just don't notice until it is too late.

Today I went to work with a HUGE hole in my sweater, sadly it was one of my favorites. I didn't notice until I put my elbow on my desk, it was COLD. (as well as a good clue as to why I get holes in my elbows). Unfortunately it was huge and I had lots of problems keeping my elbow covered with out pulling up my sleeves. Lucky for me I have a few stores to choose from near work and I remedied that over lunch.

I went from a light brown sweater to a purplish pinkish sweater. I had a cube neighbor comment on how much she liked the color, but no one commented that I changed my cloths over lunch. It's a little strange because we give and take allot of shit around the office and if I noticed they had changed over lunch I would have handed out plenty of shit.

I'm thinking about seeing how long I can pull this off for. Changing every day at lunch and see how long it will take before everyone notices. It could prove to be an entertaining game. (apparently my coworker did this on a fairly regular basis at one point. Her then manager gave her lots of grief, which is what I expected). We shall see if I ever get around to it.

Glasses- Never Ending Saga

I called again Tuesday and was told they were on the way and I should receive the glasses Wednesday. When they didn't show up after lunch I gave the company a call (around 3 PM). They are horribly hard to get a hold of and seeing as they are bad at e-mailing, leaving a message seemed silly.

Today I finally get an e-mail saying they shipped TODAY. On what planet can I receive an Item the day before it is shipped out? Anyone? She said it was sent out express but even express is not that fast. It's not so bad that they are soo late but to have no one in the company be able to find my glasses or give an update to my order (I even had the order #) is unacceptable and annoying. At least I have the tracking number for shipping now.

I seriously want these glasses before the ski trip.

Lesson learned: Cheap glasses are only good if you eventually receive them and can actually wear them.

Malfunction

I was excited to see both of the 'good' treadmills empty as I pulled up to the gym. Upon being informed that they were not working, I was not thrilled. The old trick of unplugging them and plugging them back in did nothing to help (sometimes it does).

Elliptical it is.

About half way through my workout one of the regulars came in, he doesn't usually run but I told him about the treadmills not working he looked them over. Unplugging them still did not work but he thought to try the POWER button.

Um, yes. someone had turned them off. Because they are always left on it never occurred to me to look for a power switch and turn it on.

I did switch after 30 minutes and got a little run in.

Energy Fluctuation

As you may have read Saturday and Sunday were very low energy days for me. It was strange but being back to normal Monday made it a little more acceptable. Today was not as bad but a good chunk of my energy has disappeared again. Sometimes going to the gym helps, today I didn't even try it.

I did get a good stretch in which I haven't done in a long while. I have been loosing flexibility all along and tonight I realized that it needs to change. Not going to the gym gave me lots of time to stretch out, the problem is finding a stretching routine that is effective that does not take lots of extra time and still delivers results.

Hopefully my energy issues are over! I will really need my energy for the week off. Lots of skiing and driving which are both draining to me. (Even if I am only riding in the car).

I'm Back in Business

I took today off, originally intended to relax and recover from a hard day of skiing yesterday. As you may have read it did not go quite that way. I didn't get many runs in. Then I just quit early.

By the time we got home the tiredness that settled over me Saturday afternoon was gone. Replaced by a skiing/rinding in a car tiredness. (which for the record is MUCH better). I awoke this am with energy! I got up at 7AM cleaned the kitchen and cooked Pat breakfast, unusual for a weekday but I did have the day off. I started the chicken broth simmering and started the laundry. I was only going to do the ski cloths and jeans but the washers were apparently free so I took advantage and washed everything.

Pat came home for lunch. I told him if he called ahead I would cook but that was lost on him and he called only 20 min or so before he came over. Leftover Pizza it was. I had the kitchen (less the stove top as it was still hot) clean and the laundry done by 1:30 PM. Nope I wasn't done.

I did the grocery shopping, mopped all the floors and then got dinner (chicken soup) ready to be thrown together when I got home from the gym.

Having energy is a wonderful thing.

Day of Dissapointment

The tiredness continued into today. Pat let me sleep in until 5:45 before getting me up for skiing. We were planning on leaving at 6am, but I had a headache early this am and did not sleep until the Tylenol kicked in. That combined with the exhaustion from yesterday and I was off to an interesting start.

The first run was the worst skiing run I have ever had. I felt awful and the trail was crowded. I seriously wasn't sure I was going to do any more runs. Exercise always makes me feel better so I did a few more. The first 4 runs took over 2 hours because of the lift lines, apparently my plan of avoiding crowds on super bowl Sunday was not such a unique idea. As a matter of fact the discount lift tickets combined with that idea must have seemed like the obvious best skiing day of the year, it did to me.

Anyway I was starting to feel better when I hit a 4 year old girl (age not really known). I was heading down a steep icy part of the hill and instead of turning I kept going strait (luckily fairly slowly). Stopping was not going to happen I was on ice after all. I had no choice but to sit down and try to catch her so she wouldn't get hurt. I think It worked. Her dad said she was fine, though she was crying (a few minutes after he came over). I was Soo worried. Hitting a person is bad enough but hitting a little kid is horrendous. I stayed around until I was pretty sure she was ok and that my worrying would just upset everyone more.

A few more solo falls (er, runs) and I was done for the day.

Snagging a seat in front of the fire I continued to read the Soprano state. People started to clear out around 2:30, unfortunately my boots were drying by the fire and once they are off they don't get put back on. They are uncomfortable.

***update***
When we were on the lift a gentleman informed us that Belleyare had put in a high speed lift to replace a slower moving lift. That would have been a great plan if it weren't for the fact that the new high speed lift has 100 less chairs. That may have only slowed it down a little if it were running at full speed, but for some reason in the morning they were running slow.
