As We have been shopping for a car I have realized how many shady practices are employed by used car dealerships. I found a dealership that did not include a down payment in the advertised price. Interestingly even in the fine print the down payment was not specified. How many people ended up leaving because the decent deal (it was by no means a steal) was ruined by a down payment that was not specified in the ad.
Pat found another dealership that had great prices (fairly under priced). Luckily after my "shady car dealer find he read the fine print (ok he likely would have anyway). The car was priced did not include the down payment. Who knows what they were charging for that.
Another of Pat's finds was dealers underpricing cars then when you click on the ad the price was to lease the car for a year. The full purchase price was 7-8,000 more then the least cost. Who in their right mind would lease a car for a year for 10000$?
Then their are the 2 under priced cars advertised on NJ.com. only one got back to me with the story of why she was selling so cheap. completely ignoring the fact that I asked for the VIN #. Turns out she is selling it because she moved to Scotland. She would be happy to come back and show us the car if we were serious. BTW the car is in Newark. The e-mail is from Romania (as far as I could that was the originating IP Address). Even my coworker who lives in Newark said it looked like a scam and she hates anyone saying anything bad about Newark (including assuming the people of Newark are scamming).
No wonder people hate shopping for cars. (myself included).

Let me know if you want my dad's info to help you find a car. You might have to drive to pick it up but he got us a good deal.
